The story behind the name
Centuries ago, on a small rocky rise south of Playa del Arenal in Jávea, stood the Castillo de San Martín — also known as Castillo del Arenal or Castillo de la Fontana. Close to Punta del Arenal, this fortification held a strategic position with wide views over the bay and was part of the coastal defence system against Barbary pirate raids.
In the 1950s, Chalet El Castillo was built close to that same site, taking its name in tribute to the old fortress. Today, that same house is rented out in full to those looking to experience Jávea with space and calm.
